About The Mini-Series
Country vs City.
Fantasy vs Reality.
Isolation vs Civilisation.
Inner Paradox began as a final year student media project at the University of South Australia in early 2008 in the form of a podcast known as Sounds of Darkness. It told the story of a young blind woman who gradually becomes aware that she is in fact in a coma and needs to work out how she ended up there in the first place.
The success of its final product led its creator, Ching-Ling Lim, to produce it into an experimental short film known as Inner Core, which incorporated part of the original podcast into the film itself. While much of the original script remained, the film's fast-paced visual effects gave audiences an idea of what it might feel like to be in a coma.
A private screening of the film was held on 28th November 2008 at the University of South Australia's Hartley Playhouse and received some very positive feedback, prompting Ching-Ling to turn it into a 4-part mini-series. Inner Core was later placed on youtube and has now been streamed on the film's page.
Inner Paradox retains the three core actors from Inner Core - Belinda Bishop, Tess O'Flaherty and Leona Hermann - as well as the original concept of the podcast but with one main difference. Both Sounds of Darkness and Inner Core were narrated purely from the viewpoint of one character. Inner Paradox goes one step further and explores the complexities of life faced by the other while her sister is in the coma.
